We read about follow homes from shopping centres, schools and airports all the time but do you have a plan if this happens to you?
What are the signs to look out for?
Remember you need to be alert at all times and never get distracted with cell phones or kids in the car. Regularly check in your rear view mirror and around you if stopped at a stop street or robot for any suspicious vehicles. The latest reported modus operandi is the use of two vehicles, one will initially follow and then the second one takes over along the route. They are also following people driving themselves, in an Uber or taxi and people with a lot of luggage.
Remember there could be more people involved than just the ones following you. Technology has made it possible for multiple people to communicate and talk about your moves. If the one stops, another may just take over from them, so don’t let down your guard and get distracted.
They will probably drive past you a few times, then change lanes and fall back again when you least expect it.
What to do if you have established that you are being followed?
• Make sure you have an emergency number on your phone, you need to know who you want to phone in an emergency and dial that number immediately. If possible let somebody know that you are being followed and try to give them as much information as possible. Ask them to alert 10111, or do so yourself
• Try to keep as calm as possible and say focused on getting to a safe place.
• Do not try and communicate with that vehicle in any way
• Slow down - it is harder to follow somebody that is driving slowly but just keep moving
• Turn your radio down so you are fully aware of your surroundings
• Put your headlights on bright and put your hazards on, day or night as you want to attract as much attention as possible and scare away the would be hijackers
• Do not go home – don’t show them where you live
• Don’t fall for the “tap tap” trap where a driver taps the back of your car in traffic. They often use lady drivers as decoys here. Never get out of your car on the scene to assess the damage but rather drive to a busy location. Signal to the other driver to follow you. If it is not legitimate they will seldom follow you
• Head for a busy place if possible like 24-hour garages, hospital, police station etc. where it is more difficult to follow you in and where there may be surveillance cameras
• If you stay in a secure complex with security guards, do not be fooled into thinking you are safe. You can easily be followed into your complex so always remain vigilant. Research shows that most people relax the closer they get to home and this is often when they are most vulnerable"

Dear Valued Client,
It’s been a wonderful month and we are truly Blessed with the rain fall we had over the last couple of days. Unfortunately there will be losses as well, but that is what we are there for. We will assist you with lodging a claim for damaged items and Antonette will make sure your claim is handled professionally and hassle free. We would like to make the process easier but there are certain documents that we can’t arrange for you. Damage reports on damaged items when claiming for lightning damage or water damage is essential. Unfortunately we can’t refer you to a service provider. This is because we are not affiliated or have agreements in place with these service providers. We are looking into that and we will keep you updated.
Please drive safely in these conditions. The roads are wet and we all know when it rains, driving patterns change for the worse. Make sure that you keep your following distance and travel at safe speeds. Please keep your assist number handy in case of an accident and let us know as soon as possible to help with the process of claiming. Gather as much information as possible from the third party and never admit guilt.
The primary goal of insurance is to place in you in the same position you were prior to the accident. The insurance will however make sure that no short cuts are taken when repairing your vehicle. If there is a problem, please report this to us and we will make sure that action is taken. In saying this, we want to bring to your attention that when repairs are authorised by the appointed assessor, second hand parts can be used in certain cases. If the vehicle is not new or not covered under a warranty, refurbished parts can be used. As previously mentioned, the vehicle needs to be in the same condition it was prior to the loss. Give us a call if you need more clarity on this matter.
We want to also make you aware that if you have a tracking device installed, to make sure that the system is tested after an accident or a service and that the system is tested every six months. Please make sure with your service provider what the requirements are.
We also still have broker fee consent forms outstanding, make sure that these documents are signed and returned asap.
We have had overwhelming enquiries regarding the drafting of a will and assistance with winding down estates. Please make use of our service to you and contact us if the need arises. Our Guardrisk product has had a massive impact and the product is very popular due to their excellent service and rates we are spoilt with. So let us know if you would like us to quote.

• Please contact us if you need to install a tracking device. We have agreements with service providers that will make your life easier. Avoid the call centres, speak to us directly.
• We have our pet insurance product with Oakhurst, so give us the opportunity to give you a quote.
• Ben Theunissen Brokers offers cover for tyres and rims. Let us know if you are interested.
Over the last few months we have experienced a spike in remote control jamming. The public is being targeted again and we urge you to please make sure that your vehicle is locked when leaving your vehicle unattended. Place valuables out of sight and always make sure that measures are taken to avoid unnecessary losses. The insurance companies will not be liable for losses occurred following remote control jamming. Have a look at your schedule and if you don’t have the latest schedule on file, let us know and we will send you a copy. Make sure that your valuables are covered and that you understand the requirements and terms and conditions of your policy. Call us immediately if we need to clear up uncertainties.
Assist numbers are on the schedules, please save them on your phone for emergencies and assistance. If you are unsure of what number to use, call us and we will give you the correct number.

Accidents over the festive season
Dear Valued Client,
Herewith some urgent and very important information if you are involved in an accident during the festive season and your vehicle needs to be towed.
Most of the panel beaters are closing for the festive season as from today, 7th of December 2018 until the 7th of January 2019.
Should you be involved in an accident and the vehicle needs to be towed please use your assist facility on your policy. Your Insurer will arrange for the vehicle to be towed to Salvage Management Disposal as they do not charge any storage fees. The assessment will be done at Salvage Management Disposal and the vehicle will be towed to a panel beater for repairs as soon as they re-open.
Please note - should you not make use of your insurance company for towing, towing costs as well as storage costs will be for your own account.
Also remember to notify us if you have been involved in an accident in order for us to provide you with the relevant documentation to be completed.

Service fee consent
Thank you to all our clients that have submitted the signed consent form, we do however still have many outstanding. Please send the signed forms as a matter of urgency. If you have not received this form, please contact us immediately.
This is a consent for the fee that is charged on your policy from inception and is in no way an additional fee going forward. If you need clarity, please contact us and we will assist.

2018 is almost done and dusted and it is time to start winding down and take a breather before tackling 2019 head on. What a year it has been and with the difficult economic challenges we had, we can proudly state that we have been there for our clients all the way. There were many ups and downs, but by delivering world class service, we managed to soften the impact during the hard times.
Before taking that breather, please get in contact with us or have a look at your policy to make sure that you are correctly insured. Physical addresses, insured items and requirements should be checked and confirmed. It is vitally important that you are properly covered.
Please make sure that you have your assist number on hand before leaving for your well deserved break. This number is very important in assisting you to avoid dangerous situations. If you are not sure what number to use, contact us and we will gladly assist.
